MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Highlighted by 24 home games, including 16 straight from April 9 to May 2, the Milwaukee baseball team unveiled its full schedule for the upcoming season. The Panthers will play their first game at Franklin Field on March 26 to open a series with Purdue Fort Wayne.
“It certainly has been an interesting time trying to navigate everything with COVID. With so many health and safety precautions, scheduling has been flipped on its head,” head coach Scott Doffek stated. “With four-game series and doubleheaders every weekend it will be an adjustment for sure. In the four weekends we are allowed to play outside of league, we feel like we have put together a challenging test for sure. More than anything with last year’s season being shut down we are just so thankful and excited to get back on the diamond competing”
Milwaukee begins the 2021 campaign on the road with a weekend series against Southeast Missouri State on February 19-21 before heading to Lexington, Ky. for a three-game set at Kentucky on February 26-28.
The road trip continues through the first three weekends of March as the Panthers get set to take on Ohio University on March 5-7 before opening Horizon League play with a four-game series at UIC beginning on March 12.
After a series at Northern Kentucky on March 19-21, Milwaukee hosts Horizon League newcomer Purdue Fort Wayne in the Panthers inaugural games at Franklin Field on March 26. MKE was set to make the new field home in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the remainder of the season.
Following a trip to Michigan for a four-game set at Oakland, the Panthers return to Wisconsin for 16 straight contests on their home diamond. Milwaukee hosts series against Youngstown State on April 9-11 before a break from Horizon League action has Illinois State in town from April 16-18.
“Having a team like Illinois State at home for a weekend series is something we have looked forward to for many years,” Doffek commented. “The new facility has and will continue to open new opportunities for the program.”
UIC (April 23-25) and Oakland (April 30 – May 2) then make the trip to Franklin Field to close out the homestand.
On May 7-9, Milwaukee will battle Wright State in Dayton, Ohio before one final home series beginning on May 14 against Northern Kentucky.
The Panthers will then wrap up the regular season with a four-game series versus Youngstown State on May 21-23 before preparing for the Horizon League Tournament.
Milwaukee Athletics remains committed to ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, our staff and the campus and the community. All decisions will be made with the guidance provided by county, state, campus and Horizon League officials. In addition, all game dates and times are subject to change based on current protocols. An announcement on fan attendance at events will be made prior to the start of the home season.
