FROM PRESS RELEASE
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Highlighted by 34 home games, including a three-game series with Dallas Baptist, UNCW head baseball coach Randy Hood has announced the program’s schedule for the upcoming 2021 season.
“This schedule will be a great test for the program and one that I think our fans will enjoy,” said Hood. “We were able to take advantage of our location to play some strong programs in the region while also taking on some new faces.
“This was a tough schedule to put together and we expect some changes and adjustments. But we’re looking forward to the challenges that are presented.”
The Seahawks will play 12 games in a limited Colonial Athletic Association season. The conference has split into two divisions with the College of Charleston, Elon, James Madison and William & Mary joining the Seahawks in the south division. UNCW hosts William & Mary (Apr. 30-May 2) and James Madison (May 7-9) and visit Charleston (Mar. 26-28) and Elon (Apr. 23-25).
Dallas Baptist visits Wilmington (Apr. 16-18) for a three-game series between a pair of programs that have combined for 19 NCAA regional appearances since 2003. The series is the front end of a home-and-home arrangement with the Seahawks heading to Texas in 2022.
UNCW opens its second season under the direction of Hood on Feb. 19 with the first of a four-game series with visiting VCU. The teams will play two on Feb. 20 before wrapping the weekend up with a single game on Feb. 21.
Other home weekend series include Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Cincinnati and UNCG as well as non-conference series with Charleston, William & Mary and Elon.
The Seahawks close out the regular season with three games at Charlotte in late May.
Brooks Field will serve as host of the CAA Championship tournament on May 25-30.
Midweek contests will continue to be a test for the Seahawks with games against East Carolina, North Carolina State, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina.
