ATLANTA, Ga. – The ASUN Conference announced the Baseball 2011-20 All-Decade Team as 36 student-athletes were named to the list across 11 programs. Stetson led the way with six student-athletes named to the All-Decade Team followed by five each from Kennesaw State and North Florida.
Over the past 10 years, two programs have captured multiple ASUN Championship titles in Belmont (2) and Stetson (2), while FGCU, ETSU, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb and Mercer have each captured one title. The Eagles won a conference-best three ASUN Regular Season crowns during the decade. Stetson captured a pair of regular-season crowns, while five teams collected one (Belmont, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Mercer, North Florida).
ASUN squads sent multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament three times, including qualifying a trio of squads in 2011 (Belmont, Jacksonville, Stetson). Postseason play during the decade was highlighted by Kennesaw State (2014) and Stetson (2018) advancing to the Super Regionals with the Hatters going a perfect 3-0 in Regional play in DeLand. In all, ASUN squads notched a total of 15 NCAA Tournament victories in the decade.
To be named to the All-Decade Team, an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference or multiple superlative awards. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team; Tournament MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player/Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
2011-20 Baseball All-Decade Team (listed in alphabetical order by last name)
Nick Backlund, Mercer (2012-14)
– Backlund earned three selections to the All-Conference Team including First Team nods in 2012 and 2013. He was also named Player of the Week twice during his career as a Bear.
Michael Baumann, Jacksonville (2015-17)
– Baumann is the only player in ASUN Conference history to capture both the Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, doing so in 2015. He is a two-time All-Conference recipient and helped lead the Dolphins to the ASUN Regular Season title in 2017.
Gaither Bumgardner, USC Upstate (2010-13)
– Bumgardner was the Player of the Year in 2012 and finished his career with two First Team All-Conference honors (2012-13). He was a member of the 2013 All-Tournament Team and secured both a Player and Pitcher of the Week honor during his tenure as a Spartan.
Angel Camacho, Jacksonville (2016-19)
– A three-time All-Academic Team selection (2017-19), Camacho was part of the Dolphins ASUN Regular Season title squad in 2017. He is a four-time Player of the Week selection and landed First Team All-Conference honors in 2018 and 2019. Camacho ranks 24th in the ASUN record book for career at-bats with 838.
Dylan Craig, Belmont (2009-12)
– Craig led Belmont to back-to-back ASUN Championship (2011-12) and is the league’s all-time leader in triples with 24. A three-time All-Conference selection, he also ranks third in at-bats (958), fourth in hits (328), 15th in runs (194) and 20th in total bases (433) in the ASUN career record book. Craig also earned the 2009 Freshman of the Year honor and was an All-Tournament Team member the same year.
Brad Deppermann, North Florida (2015-19)
– Deppermann was the 2019 ASUN Pitcher of the Year and was a unanimous First Team selection to that season’s All-Conference Team. He also earned three Pitcher of the Week awards during his four years as an Osprey.
Donnie Dewees, North Florida (2013-15)
– Dewees was tabbed the ASUN’s Player of the Year following the 2015 season. He earned All-Conference honors in 2013 and 2015 while his five Player of the Week awards are an all-time record for North Florida student-athletes.
Kerry Doane, ETSU (2010-13)
– The 2013 Pitcher of the Year, Doane was also named the Tournament MVP after guiding ETSU to its first and only ASUN Championship that same season. He lands in the No. 7 spot on the conference record chart for shutouts with four in his career.
Aaron Dobbs, Kennesaw State (2011-12)
– A First Team All-Conference selection in 2011 and 2012, Dobbs played both outfield and third base for the Owls in his two seasons. He started over 110 games for the Owls and racked up 148 hits with over a .300 average both seasons including .343 in 2012.
Jonathan Embry, Liberty (2017-19)
– Embry, the 2019 ASUN Player of the Year, led Liberty to the ASUN Championship title in its first year in the league. Along the way, he earned First Team All-Conference distinction as a catcher and was named the 2019 Tournament MVP en route to the Flames’ Championship crown.
Ronnie Freeman, Kennesaw State (2010-12)
Holding a career batting average of .368, Freeman is a three-time All-Conference catcher for Kennesaw State with a First Team selection in 2012. That same year, he earned All-Academic Team and All-Tournament Team spots to finish his three-year career with over 225 hits and 150 RBIs.
Frank German, North Florida (2016-18)
– German represented the Ospreys on the All-Conference First Team in both 2017 and 2018 and was also a 2018 All-Tournament Team selection. His career included being named Pitcher of the Week three times which ties a North Florida program record.
Michael Gigliotti, Lipscomb (2015-17)
– A three-time All-Conference Second Team selection (2015-17), Gigliotti was named the 2017 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned All-Tournament Team distinction that same season and was a member of the Bisons 2015 squad which captured the ASUN Championship title.
Logan Gilbert, Stetson (2016-18)
– Gilbert was named Pitcher of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2017-18) and is the only student-athlete in ASUN history with this distinction. He appeared on two All-Conference First Teams, two All-Academic Teams and his four Pitcher of the Week honors are a Stetson program record.
Dan Gulbransen, Jacksonville (2010-12)
– Gulbransen captured the first Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in ASUN history in 2012. As an outfielder, he earned three consecutive First Team All-Conference honors (2010-12) and was also named the 2010 Freshman of the Year in his first year at Jacksonville.
Mark Jones, Stetson (2009-12)
– A First Team All-Conference selection in 2011 and 2012, Jones was also a member of the 2009 All-Freshmen Team. He was also chosen to the 2011 ASUN All-Tournament Team.
Ricky Knapp, FGCU (2011-13)
– Knapp captured the ASUN Pitcher of the Year award in 2012 landing him on the All-Conference First Team, a feat he duplicated in 2013 as well. He earned four Pitcher of the Week honors during his time in the Eagles uniform and his career 2.92 ERA ranks 20th in conference history.
Ian Martinez-McGraw, Lipscomb (2014-15)
– Martinez-McGraw was named to the First Team All-Conference squad and All-Academic Team in 2015 after helping Lipscomb claim the ASUN Championship. He also earned All-Tournament Team honors and Second Team All-Conference honors in 2014.
Grant Massey, Lipscomb (2014-15)
– Massey was a part of Lipscomb’s 2015 ASUN Championship squad as he was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year that season. A two-time All-Tournament Team member (2014-15), he earned First Team All-Conference distinction in 2015 and Second Team in 2014.
Patrick Mazeika, Stetson (2013-15)
– Mazeika’s first season as a Hatter in 2013 ended with him earning the ASUN Freshman of the Year honor. He would finish his career with three All-Conference Team honors and two All-Academic Team selections.
Tanner Murphy, North Florida (2017-19)
– The 2019 ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Murphy was an All-Conference First Team selection in both 2018 and 2019. With two appearances on the All-Academic Team, he is one of three Ospreys to achieve this accomplishment.
Michael Murray, FGCU (2013-15)
– The ASUN’s 2014 Pitcher of the Year, Murray helped guide FGCU to the Regular Season title that season. During his career, he captured five Pitcher of the Week awards and his career 2.73 ERA ranks 16th all-time in league history.
Jake Noll, FGCU (2013-16)
– Noll notched two individual postseason award honors during his FGCU career being named the ASUN Player of the Year in 2016 and Freshman of the Year in 2014. The second baseman was named to a pair of All-Conference First Teams (2014, 2016) and landed on the Second Team in 2015 while being named to the All-Tournament Team in 2015 as well.
Terence Norman, Kennesaw State (2017-pres.)
Norman landed on the First Team All-Conference as a sophomore and junior in the 2018-19 seasons after totaling 138 hits during that span. In each of his seasons with KSU, Norman batted over .300 as he was tabbed the 2020 Preseason Player of the Year.
Corbin Olmstead, North Florida (2013-16)
– A three-time member of the All-Conference First Team (2014-16), Olmstead began his career with a selection to the All-Freshmen lineup in 2013. During his four years as an Osprey, he was named Pitcher of the Week twice and Player of the Week once.
Max Pentecost, Kennesaw State (2012-14)
The 2014 ASUN Player of the Year, Pentecost was a member of the 2014 NCAA Super Regional Team for the Owls as he later became one of the highest draft picks in ASUN history, going 11th overall to the Toronto Blue Jays. A two-time All-Tournament and All-Conference selection, he batted .422 in 2014 with an ASUN single-season record 113 hits.
Robbie Powell, Stetson (2009-12)
– Powell ranks third on the all-time ASUN career charts for saves with 35 and also appears fourth in appearances with 118. The two-time Pitcher of the Week was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2012 and also earned Third Team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball that same season.
Brady Puckett, Lipscomb (2015-17)
– The 2016 ASUN Pitcher of the Year, Puckett was a six-time Pitcher of the Week selection during his time in the Bisons uniform. He was selected to the 2015 All-Tournament Team during Lipscomb’s ASUN Championship season and earned First Team All-Conference honors in 2016.
Bo Reeder, ETSU (2009-11)
– Reeder earned three All-Conference Team honors including First Team (RP) and Second Team (3B) selections in 2011 along with another Second Team (3B) award in 2010. In the ASUN career record book, he ranks sixth in home runs (50), 13th in total bases (451), 17th in saves (19) and 23rd in RBIs (174). Reeder also earned 2009 All-Tournament Team distinction.
Nick Rivera, FGCU (2013-17)
– The ASUN’s 2017 Player of the Year, Rivera’s five career Player of the Week awards are the most for an FGCU student-athletes and tied for second-highest in conference history. A two-time All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team honoree, his 59 career doubles are ranked 13th in ASUN history.
Kurt Schluter, Stetson (2010-14)
– Schluter earned the Pitcher of the Year honor and a nod to the All-Conference First Team in 2011. He was also a member of the 2012 All-Academic Team and captured a Pitcher of the Week award in his career.
Kal Simmons, Kennesaw State (2013-15)
A three-time All-Conference selection including a First Team nod in 2013, Simmons played shortstop for the Owls as he helped Kennesaw State reach the 2014 Super Regionals. Simmons earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American accolades and boasted a career average of .276.
Adam Brett Walker, Jacksonville (2010-12)
– The ASUN Player of the Year in 2011, Walker ranks 20th in home runs (41) and 23rd in RBIs (174) on the conference career charts. He earned a pair of First Team All-Conference honors as a first baseman (2011-12) and Second Team distinction as a designated hitter in 2010 while also being named to the league’s All-Tournament Team in 2011.
Brooks Wilson, Stetson (2015-18)
– The 2018 Player of the Year, Wilson also earned a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection that season. In 2015, he was named to both the All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshmen Team.
Derrick Workman, Mercer (2011-14)
– The 2014 ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Workman was a member of three All-Academic Teams which is a Mercer program record. He was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2012 and 2013 and made the All-Freshmen squad in 2011.
Chesny Young, Mercer (2012-14)
– Young was tabbed Player of the Year in 2013 after beginning his career with the 2012 Freshman of the Year honor. He earned two All-Conference Team selections and was a member of the 2013 All-Academic Team.
