FROM PRESS RELEASE

Heading into the final week of the 2020 South Florida Collegiate Baseball League season players from all over the country have shown what they are capable of. Many have separated from the pack and show why they are the best of the best. In the 2020 SFCBL All-Star Game on July 26th, over 60 scouts were able to see their talents on display against the other top players in the league. Here are a few players that stood out at this year’s game:

Mason Black – RHP Lehigh University

One of the most dominant pitchers in the SFCBL has been Mason Black. Over his 23 innings pitched he has 34 strikeouts. During that time, has only allowed 8 hits, 10 walks and is sporting a 0.78 ERA. His arsenal consists of a fastball sitting 92-96 and will touch 97/98 along with a cutter, slider and changeup. He is certainly the front runner at the moment for the SFCBL 2020 Pitcher of the Year and is a potential 1st round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Jermaine Vanheyningen – RHP Florida International University

With a 6’7” 225 frame, Vanheyningen has all the makings of a soon-to-be MLB flamethrower. Vanheyningen topped out at 99 MPH and sat 95-97 in his one inning of work during the game. He also features a devastating split finger that sits around 85-86 and a curve ball that is 79-81 This season he has 10 innings of work he has accumulated 16 punch outs.

Ryan Bruno – LHP Stanford University

One of the few true freshmen in the SFCBL, Bruno will be starting his collegiate career this fall at Stanford. He has been phenomenal going up against top-level collegiate competition this summer. With a 1.42 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched, he has proven he will be a force to be reckon with in the PAC-12 in the 2021 spring. During the game Bruno touched 96 several times and sat 92-95. Bruno has a remarkably high ceiling with his 6’4 frame and clean mechanics.

Zack Neto – Infielder Campbell University

Zack Neto has been one of the best, if not the best, hitter in the SFCBL this summer. He earned the Player of The Week award for his “Week Three” performance where Neto went 13 for 22 with a double, three home runs, 14 RBIs and three walks. As of July 27, he has a .451 batting average, six home runs, 10 double and only 14 strikeouts over his 82 at bats this season. As of now, he is in the hunt for the SFCBL 2020 Offensive player of the year.

Luis Aviles- Catcher Tulane University

One of the players in the SFCBL that was greatly affected by the shutdown of sports in the spring was Luis Aviles. During his short season for Tulane, he hit .394 with four doubles and two home runs in eight starts for the Green Wave. In the All-Star Game batting practice, he showed big league power hitting balls out with ease. He will look to help push the West Boca Snappers across the finish line for their third SFCBL title come playoff time.

Cade Doughty – Infielder LSU

Along with Zack Neto, Cade Doughty is also making a push for SFCBL 2020 Offensive Player of the Year with a .418 batting average, six doubles and 13 RBIs for the Boca Raton Blazers. Even while at LSU Doughty was making an impact. In his freshman season, he started 16 of 17 games with a .278 average 12 RBIs and two home runs. Doughty will look to continue to be an impact player for the Bayou Bengals as his career progresses. Doughty has already caught the attention of MLB scouts as he was drafted in 2019 by the Detroit Tigers in the 39th round.
