WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross Director of Athletics Marcus Blossom has removed the interim tag from head baseball coach Ed Kahovec, keeping Kahovec at the helm of the program he has guided since January.
“Ed has contributed greatly to the overall competitive success of our baseball program,” said Blossom. “He has proven himself to be an intentional leader who always puts the student-athletes first. I look forward to the program’s continued growth and future success under his leadership.”
Kahovec was named interim head coach for the Crusaders in January after 12-year head coach Greg DiCenzo departed to accept a position as a manager in the Cleveland Indians organization.
Prior to the conclusion of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, Kahovec led the Crusaders to wins over Old Dominion and UC Riverside and a series win at CSU Bakersfield. Holy Cross had a strong start to the year offensively, batting .255 as a team and averaging 5.1 runs per game, the Crusaders’ best marks through the first 15 games of the season since the 2015 campaign. Holy Cross also ranked 11th among all Division I teams in 2020 with an average of 2.47 doubles per game.

Kahovec joined the Holy Cross coaching staff during the 2017 season, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2017-19. The Crusaders qualified for the Patriot League Tournament during each of his first three years on the coaching staff, winning the Patriot League title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2017. In Kahovec’s first three seasons on The Hill, Holy Cross saw 11 All-Patriot League selections and the 2017 Patriot League Rookie of the Year in center fielder Austin Masel.
Before his time at Holy Cross, Kahovec served as the head baseball coach and assistant director of athletics at Bard College from 2012-16, building a program from scratch after the school had not fielded a baseball team since 1937. He was previously on the coaching staff at the University of Rochester from 2009-12, helping the team to two University Athletic Association championships, two regular-season Liberty League titles and three conference tournament appearances.
Kahovec earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and English from Rochester in 2008, earning All-Liberty League honors three times. He additionally earned a master’s degree in educational psychology from Missouri in 2019.
