Garrett Mitchell was taken pretty high in the 2017 MLB Draft as the Oakland Athletics took him in the 14th round, but he still turned them down to play at UCLA.
As a freshman in 2018 he hit .280 with 19 runs scored, 4 doubles, and 31 RBI in 44 games.
That summer he hit .309/.404 with 27 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, and 20 RBI in the Northwoods League.
And then he broke out as a sophomore with UCLA by hitting .349/.418 with 57 runs scored, 14 doubles, 12 triples, 6 home runs, 41 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.
He spent time this past summer with the USA Collegiate National team.
The 6-foot-1 center fielder who hits left-handed and throws right-handed is expected to be one of the first bats taken in the 2020 MLB Draft. His combination of power and speed are a big reason why with a lot of projection left in his athletic frame.
