MIAMI (Jan. 8, 2020) – With 2019 in the rearview mirror, FIU coach Mervyl Melendez announced the 2020 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The 2020 slate is packed to the brim with games at FIU Baseball Stadium, including 13 of the first 14 contests at home.
A new decade of FIU baseball starts on Friday, Feb. 14 with a three-game series against the Fordham Rams of the Atlantic 10. First pitch for the 2020 season is slated for 7 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
For the lone road game of the month of February, FIU travels up the coast for its first mid-game of the year as the Panthers face Bethune-Cookman for a Tuesday night matchup on Feb. 18.
To open the longest homestand of the season, the Blue & Gold hosts George Mason for a three-game weekend series on Feb. 21-23 before doing the same against Pepperdine (Feb. 28-March 1) and Penn (March 6-8). The homestand concludes with Bethune-Cookman’s return trip to Miami on March 11.
Conference USA play starts with a road trip to defending tournament champion Southern Miss on March 13 for a three-game set before the Panthers for return to South Florida for a Wednesday mid-week at Miami on March 18.
Rice comes to Miami on March 20 for a three-game series to open C-USA play at FIU Baseball Stadium. The yearly mid-week home-and-home series with FGCU takes place on March 24 in Fort Myers and March 25 in Miami. March concludes with a weekend series to UAB that begins on March 27.
FIU opens welcomes April with a five-game homestand that begins with Miami on April 1, before the Panthers host Old Dominion (April 3-5) and Bethune-Cookman (April 7). The month of April continues with weekend series at WKU (April 9-11) and a road mid-week trip to Stetson (April 14).
The second-longest home swing of the season starts with back-to-back C-USA home series with Marshall (April 17-19) and FAU (April 24-16) for the only time in 2020. April concludes with a two-game mid-week series against Western Carolina on the 28-29. This will mark the first time that the Panthers and the Catamounts have met on a baseball diamond since 1984. A weekend series with Charlotte (May 1-3) concludes the longest road trip of the season.
The final homestand of the regular season starts on May 8 with a weekend series against C-USA foe Middle Tennessee. Senior Night and final home game of the 2020 season will be held on May 12 against Stetson with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm. FIU polishes off regular-season play with three-game at LA Tech starting on May 14.
The C-USA Tournament will once again be held at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi, during the dates of May 20-24. Times are to be announced.
NCAA Regionals get underway on May 29, and NCAA Super Regional play is slated for June 5 at various host sites to be announced later. The season calumets June 13-24 as TD Ameritrade Park Omaha plays host to the College World Series.
