We go back to the SEC at 16 with Tennessee starting pitcher Garrett Crochet who was taken in the 34th round of the 2017 draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
As a freshman in 2018 he had a 5.51 ERA in 63.2 innings with 62 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.48.
That summer he didn’t give up a run in 6 innings with 10 strikeouts in the California Collegiate League.
In 2019 with Tennessee he posted a 4.02 ERA in 65 innings (6 starts, 12 relief appearances) with 81 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.37 and 3 saves.
He spent part of this past summer with the USA Collegiate National team.
The big lefty is 6-foot-6 and 218 pounds with a lot of projection in his arm with a mid-90s fastball and plus slider to go along with a developing change-up.
This fall he pitched two innings and didn’t allow a hit against Clemson in an exhibition with 3 strikeouts.
He’s poised to have a big year in 2020 as the Friday night starter for the Volunteers.
