Despite the Vanderbilt starting rotation being led by Mason Hickman and Kumar Rocker, lefty Hugh Fisher might have the most upside at the next level.

Fisher posted a 2.91 ERA as a freshman in 2018 with 8 strikeouts in just 9.1 innings of work.

He made 22 apperances out of the bullpen in 2019 and had a 4.41 ERA in 34.2 innings with 46 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.50 as he struggled with walks issuing 21 free passes.

However, he was great to start the year as he didn’t allow a run in 12 of his first 16 appearances.

In the Cape this past summer he struck out 13 batters in 8.2 innings, but he also gave up 7 earned runs on 13 hits and 6 walks.

Just the fact that he’s left-handed and is 6-foot-5 is enough to have scouts salivating. But he also features a mid-90s fastball and a plus slider that at the very least project him to be a dominant closer at the next level if his command continues to get better.

It’s unclear what Tim Corbin will do with him in 2020. He may get a shot in the starting rotation, but with the depth they already have there he may be best served in the back of the bullpen.
