LSU right-handed pitcher Cole Henry was a 38th round draft pick in 2018 by the Detroit Tigers and now lands at 28 on our 2020 Top 100 Countdown of the best players in college baseball.
Even as a freshman in 2019, he quickly become the team’s number one weekend starter.
He posted a 3.39 ERA in 14 games (11 starts) with 72 strikeouts in 58.1 innings pitched with a WHIP of 1.17 and a BAA of .226.
Those numbers were good enough to earn him Freshman All-American honors by Perfect Game. And was named to the 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team.
This fall he threw two scoreless innings in the team’s Fall World Series.
Head Coach Paul Mainieri had this to say about Cole’s outing:
“Cole was phenomenal, he looked like a Friday night starter in the SEC. That was a good final fall outing for him, and now he can take a little bit of a break and get ready for the spring.”
The gloves should be off for the youngster in 2020 and I expect him to become one of the best Friday night pitchers in the country.
