Lafayette shortstop Hayden Cantrelle was taken in the 40th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.
After two great seasons at the collegiate level he’s expecting to go much higher in the draft next time around.
As a freshman in 2018 he hit .287/.407 with 46 runs scored, 13 doubles, 4 home runs, 22 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.
That summer he played in the Cape Cod League but hit just .174 in 32 games, however, he did have an OBP of .393.
In his sophomore season with Lafayette he hit .309/.426 with 56 runs scored, 15 doubles, 9 home runs, 31 RBI, and 28 stolen bases from the leadoff spot.
He went back to the Cape and did much better this time around hitting .315/427 with 29 runs scored, 3 home runs, and 19 stolen bases in 36 games.
After going back to the Cape and putting together the summer he did really elevated his draft stock.
As long as he continues to show that power and speed potential in his junior season, he’ll be one of the more toolsy athletes in the upcoming MLB Draft.
