Matt McLain was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and was taken with the 25th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft.
A bit surprisingly, he turned down a shot at the big leagues and kept his commitment to UCLA.
The Summer before his freshman season he hit .291 in the West Coast League with 14 runs scored, 3 home runs, and 4 RBI in 23 games.
But things didn’t go as he’d hoped as a freshman with UCLA. He hit just .203 with a .276 OBP in 61 games with 28 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 triples, 4 home runs, 30 RBI, and 6 stolen bases.
He went to the Cape Cod League this summer and hit a solid .274 in 113 at-bats with 25 runs scored, 7 doubles, 2 home runs, and 23 RBI as well as a .394 OBP.
Obviously there is a lot of potential here with McLain and we think he has a big bounce-back season with UCLA in 2020.
