Number 54 on our College Baseball Daily Top 100 Countdown is UC-Irvine right-handed pitcher Trenton Denholm.
As a freshman in 2018 he posted a 4.72 ERA in 74 innings with just 48 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.45.
He went to the Cape Cod League that summer and didn’t give up a single earned run in 21.2 innings (9 starts) with 29 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.04.
That led to a huge sophomore season with UCI as he went 9-4 on the mound with a 1.81 ERA in 99.2 innings with 93 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.81.
He went back to the Cape this past summer and pitched 7 scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts.
Denholm doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but he’s developed great command of his pitches, which makes him a very valuable target for scouts.
