I was a little surprised to see Alec Burleson on this list, not because he’s not a great player, but because I thought for sure he was gone by now. It seems like he’s been on our Top 100 Countdown for several years now.

But Burleson is back for his junior season with East Carolina after two great years.

In 2018 he hit .252 as a freshman, but he was huge on the mound with a 3.33 ERA in 54 innings with 49 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.22.

That summer he hit .383 with 10 home runs in Cal Ripkin League, while posting a 0.34 ERA in 26.1 innings with 23 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.65!

He put it all together in his sophomore season with East Carolina hitting .370 with 9 home runs and 61 RBI, while compiling a 3.28 ERA in 60 innings with 68 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.36.

Alec spent this past summer with Team USA.

He enters the 2020 season as the best two-way player in the country. It will be interesting to see how scouts view him, but with the emergence of two-way players in the big leagues, maybe he gets a chance to do both at the next level.
