In the 2017 MLB Draft, catcher Casey Opitz was taken in the 27th round by the Cleveland Indians.
He passed up that chance to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
In 2018 he played in just 19 games and hit .222. He only got 12 at-bats in the Alaska Summer League following that season.
During his sophomore season with Arkansas in 2019 he hit .246 with 31 runs scored, 3 home runs, 33 RBI, and a .382 OBP.
This past summer he spent time with the USA Baseball team.
Opitz is known as a great defensive catcher with a great arm to throw runners out.
Scouts just need to see him hit a little more and he’ll shoot up the draft boards as one of the top catchers in the 2020 class.
