Arizona State got a huge transfer when pitcher Tyler Thornton decided to move from St. Mary’s to the Sun Devils.
He had a huge freshman year at St. Mary’s where he went 10-2 with a 2.71 ERA in 76 innings pitched with 94 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.97.
Thornton allowed just 47 hits in those 76 innings, which is amazing.
The 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher was named the National Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball and was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to pitching in the Pac-12, but if he can continue doing what he did as a freshman … watch out.
