Auburn University sophomore pitcher Garrett Wade was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school where he was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama.
The Tampa Bay Rays took him in the 38th round of the MLB Draft that year, but he obviously declined to come to Auburn.
He had a solid freshman season, but certainly not what we were all hoping for.
Wade posted a 4.86 ERA in 33 innings pitching (15 games, 7 starts) with 41 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.80.
The walks, as is typical with freshman, were a major concern in 2019 as he issued 27 free passes in just 33 innings.
Wade clearly has the talent to be a great college pitcher if he can command his offerings.
He threw a clean inning in his only appearance this fall.
Wade will have to prove himself in the Spring that he belongs in a crowded Auburn weekend rotation. But we’re expecting him to have a breakout sophomore season.
