The next person on our CBD Top 100 Countdown is Wake Forest left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster.
Shuster is someone who has struggled in his first two seasons at Wake Forest, but the talent is there for him to breakout in 2020.
As a freshman in 2018 he posted a 7.41 ERA in 34 innings with 32 strikeouts and WHIP of 1.53. He allowed less than a hit an inning but struggled with walks giving up 21 free passes.
That summer he showed what he’s capable of with an ERA of 2.76 in 9 starts and 49 innings with 62 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.12 (18 walks).
In his sophomore season at Wake Forest he had a setback with an ERA of 6.49 in 68 innings with a WHIP of 1.76 as he gave up a ton of hits (83) with 37 walks.
But his strikeout numbers increased with 94 punchouts in those 68 innings.
He went on to pitch in the Cape Cod League this past summer and was lights out over 7 starts with a 1.41 ERA in 32 innings with 35 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.78.
Shuster did a great job of limiting baserunners at the Cape allowing just 20 hits and 5 walks all summer.
If he can carry that into his junior season with Wake Forest, watch out.
