OREM, Utah – Utah Valley University head baseball coach Eric Madsen has announced his team’s 2020 schedule and it features road trips at Pac-12 foes Arizona and Washington, as well as home contests against BYU, Utah, and Mountain West opponents Air Force and Boise State.
UVU’s 2020 schedule also includes road series at regional foes San José State and Portland, as well as a full 27 game Western Athletic Conference slate.
“David Carter has done a great job with our schedule. We are playing some teams we haven’t played before and will be challenged as we prepare for a tough WAC schedule,” Madsen said. “We’re looking forward to the 2020 season.”
The Wolverines will open the season with 17 straight games away from Orem, as they’ll play four consecutive four-game weekend series along with a midweek game at neighboring rival BYU. UVU will start the gauntlet with an opening series at Abilene Christian of the Southland Conference on Feb. 14-16 in Abilene, Texas. Utah Valley will then follow that up with a four-game set at Portland of the West Coast Conference on Feb. 20-22 followed by four more games at San José State of the Mountain West on Feb. 28-March 1. UVU will then play its first game of the season in the Beehive State on Tuesday, March 3 with a midweek contest at Miller Park in Provo against Brigham Young and will cap the stretch with a four-game series at Washington on March 6-8 at Husky Ballpark in Seattle.
Following the tough stretch, UVU will then return to UCCU Ballpark for five straight games against Mountain West foes. The Wolverines will first face Air Force in a two-game midweek set on March 10 and 11, before welcoming new program Boise State to town for three games that weekend (March 13-15). Utah Valley will then head to Smith’s Ballpark on Tuesday, March 17 for the first of two season meetings against in-state rival Utah, before opening WAC play with a three-game weekend set at home against CSU Bakersfield March 20-22.
The Wolverines will host fellow WAC foes Northern Colorado (April 3-5), Seattle U (April 17-19), California Baptist (May 1-3), and UT Rio Grande Valley (May 8-10), as well as play at Chicago State (March 27-29), 2019 regular season conference champion New Mexico State (April 9-11), Grand Canyon (April 24-26), and 2019 WAC Tournament champion and reigning NCAA qualifier Sacramento State (May 14-16) during conference play. Sandwiched in-between are midweek home contests against Boise State on April 15, BYU on April 22, and Utah on May 5, as well as a midweek road game at Arizona on April 27.
In all, UVU will play a total of 23 home games during the 2020 campaign.
The 2020 WAC Tournament will then be held May 20-24 at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona. A season ago, UVU made a deep run at the WAC Tournament by knocking off the eventual tournament champion Sac State Hornets in the opening round. The top six eligible teams will qualify to compete in the tournament.
Before opening the season in the spring, the Wolverines will play a pair of fall exhibition games over the next couple of weeks. UVU will open its fall exhibition slate with a home scrimmage against in-state foe Dixie State at UCCU Ballpark on Saturday, Oct. 26 (at 1 p.m. MT), before capping exhibition play with a road contest at the College of Southern Nevada on Saturday, Nov. 9 (12 p.m. MT/11 a.m. PT).
