JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State baseball program and head coach Jim Case have officially announced the Gamecocks’ schedule for the upcoming 2020 season.
The new year features 32 home games on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium as part of the 56-game slate for JSU.
Jax State will play its first 12 games at home, starting the campaign with a three-game series with the Tigers of Missouri out of the Southeastern Conference on February 14-16. The homestand also features home series with Central Michigan and Gardner-Webb. The Chippewas of CMU claimed the Mid-American Conference title and an NCAA Tournament bid. CMU finished with a 47-14 overall mark. Coincidentally, JSU and CMU entered the NCAA postseason with the top-two winning streaks in college baseball last season. The two clubs will meet four times in Jacksonville (Feb. 22-24). The series with GWU (Feb. 28-March 1) will be a tune up for Ohio Valley Conference play. JSU’s first pair of midweek outings will be against UAB on February 19 and hosting Kennesaw State on March 3.
The Gamecocks will begin their defense of the OVC regular season league title at Eastern Illinois on March 6-8. JSU will step out of conference play the following week with a three-game series with Samford. The two in-state rivals will open the weekend in Jacksonville on Friday, March 13 before traveling to Hoover, Alabama the next day to play at the Hoover Met. The weekend set will close out at Samford on Sunday, March 13.
Including the series with Samford, JSU will have home-and-home midweek games with UAB, Alabama State and Troy. JSU will travel to North Alabama in March and host Alabama A&M in April. For the fourth consecutive year, JSU and Alabama will face off in a two-game series. The Gamecocks will travel to Tuscaloosa on April 7, while the Crimson Tide will return to Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium on May 5. JSU’s solid non-conference slate also incudes a trip to Athens, Georgia to face the Bulldogs of Georgia on April 14.
JSU’s home OVC slate includes series against Murray State (March 20-22), Southeast Missouri (April 3-5), Eastern Kentucky (April 17-19), UT Martin (May 1-3) and Austin Peay (May 14-16).
For the second consecutive year, the OVC Baseball Tournament will return to Marion, Illinois and Rent One Ballpark on May 19-24. Last Season, JSU swept through the tournament to win the championship and the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
