CHAPEL HILL – Home series against Atlantic Coast Conference foes Louisville, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh, the annual meeting against South Carolina in Charlotte and the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis highlight the 2020 North Carolina Baseball schedule, announced Thursday. Carolina will face a total of 10 teams that competed in last season’s NCAA tournament, three of which were regional hosts.
“Our players and staff are really looking forward to the 2020 season,” said head coach Mike Fox. “Between our non-conference matchups and 30 demanding ACC games, we have another challenging schedule. The addition of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis will be a great experience for our players. Add in 35 games at beautiful Boshamer Stadium, and there is plenty to be excited about next spring.”
The Heels will open up the season with a lot of time in front of the fans at Boshamer Stadium, starting the year with 16 of its first 19 games at home.
The first two weekends of the year will be played in Chapel Hill, with series against Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 14-16) and Dallas Baptist (Feb. 21-23) Around those matchups will be midweek games against Elon, High Point and NC A&T.
The Tar Heels will hit the road for the first time to take part in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The Heels will face off against Minnesota, Iowa and Purdue (Feb. 28 – March 1) before heading back to the Tar Heel state.
Midweek matchups against UNCG and VCU will lead that Heels in to its ACC opening weekend as they host Notre Dame (March 6-8). After two more midweeks against Gardner Webb and VMI, the Heels travel to Durham for the first road ACC weekend of the year to take on Duke (March 13-15).
A home midweek game against UNCW on March 17 is quickly followed by a home series against 2019 College World Series participant Louisville (March 20-22) before the Tar Heels hit the road for four straight games.
They will travel to Greenville, N.C. on March 24 to take on ECU before heading to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest (March 27-29).
To kick off April, Carolina will host fellow 2019 Chapel Hill Regional participant Liberty on April 1 before hosting a rematch of the ACC Tournament title game in a three-game series against Georgia Tech (April 3-5).
The middle of April will see the Tar Heels hit the road in seven of its next eight games that kicks off with its annual game against South Carolina in Charlotte on April 7. From there, UNC will fly to Coral Gables for the weekend for a three-game series against Miami (April 10-12).
Carolina has one home matchup against Coastal Carolina on April 14 before hitting the road again, this time it’s the quick trip to Raleigh to face NC State (April 17-19).
After the Heels face the Wolfpack, they return home for 10 of its last 14 games highlighted by ACC series against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh. Midweek games against Campbell, East Carolina and two back-to-back matchups against College of Charleston sandwich the Tech and Pitt series.
The last four games of the year are all on the road as Carolina travels to Boone to take on App State on May 12 before ending the regular season at Virginia (May 14-16).
The 2019 ACC Baseball Championship will take place at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C. ,(May 19-24) with NCAA Regionals starting on May 29 at campus sites. The NCAA Super Regionals will be held the following weekend (June 5-7) before the College World Series kicks off June 13 and concludes on June 24.
