FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Athletics is in the midst of a capital project that will benefit its student athletes. Titan Athletics is upgrading its clubhouse facilities for baseball and softball so that they can continue to recruit top level student-athletes in these nationally competitive sports. This project will be able to provide adequate locker room and shower space, rooms for meetings and video analysis, space for the players to get snacks, and most importantly, room for them to study.
The process started in November 2017 and is currently in the pre-construction phase. The coaches have submitted their “wish lists” which will hopefully fit within the $10-12 million that is being set aside with fees collected from the Student Success Initiative. An architect and a contractor have been selected and they are currently working together to create the blueprint for the project. Construction is slated to begin following the conclusion of the 2020 season with completion scheduled for the 2021 season.
The concept is to construct a new facility in the left field area at Goodwin Field which will be the home of our baseball locker rooms and coach’s offices. Renovation is planned for the facility that currently houses the baseball and softball programs. It is currently known as the Wilson Clubhouse and Doubek VIP Room and it sits between Goodwin Field and Anderson Family Field. This renovation will make this building a “softball only” facility and will be the home of our softball locker rooms and coach’s offices.
“The baseball & softball project is invaluable in regards to recruiting, student-athlete experience, first-class program offices, meeting rooms and locker rooms. Both Titans Baseball and Titans Softball have had tremendous historical success, but also very good success in the last decade, most recently with four consecutive conference titles for softball and two World Series appearances for baseball in the last five years. The goal of the project is to keep these programs nationally competitive, and conference dominant for the next decade or two. We are very much looking forward to actual construction starting in 2020.” – Jim Donavan, Athletics Director
“This renovation is priceless to our program. It will immediately impact recruiting, alumni pride, campus and community game day experience and most importantly the experience of our current student-athletes. The plans are mind blowing. Thank you to our administration for their championship vision with this game changing renovation.” – Kelly Ford, Softball Head Coach
“Adding a new state of the art clubhouse is going to be great for our program and our school. We’ve always competed with the top programs in the country and now we’ll have a facility that is on par with those top programs.” Rick Vanderhook, Baseball Head Coach
“This is an exciting project for the university and the baseball and softball programs. It is currently in the design phase with plans to mobilize for construction May of 2020.” – John Spencer, Project Manager
