STORRS, Conn. – The UConn baseball team announced its 2020 schedule on Saturday morning with a 56-game schedule that features 16 games at new on-campus stadium, Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies are slated to open their new stadium against a familiar Big East foe, Seton Hall, on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m. UConn plays two additional home games at Dunkin’ Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats.
UConn is scheduled to play its first-ever night game on campus on Wednesday, April 1 vs. Stony Brook at 6 p.m. Tickets and more information on home games will be provided at a later date.
The Huskies will face another challenging schedule in 2020, playing 25 games against 10 programs that finished 2019 in the Top-100 of the RPI. Additionally, the Huskies face eight teams that reached the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
“I’m not sure anyone in America could have a more challenging early season schedule than we have in 2020, said head coach Jim Penders. “Before we see March, we’ll have played the national champion and the national runner-up five times total. Of course, we want to play a tough schedule to prepare us for the rigors of The American. The competition and travel will test us, but I’m most looking forward to the part of the schedule that will be played in our brand-new, state-of-the-art home. Elliot Ballpark’s opening will be a highlight for sure.”
UConn opens the season in Scottsdale, Ariz for the MLB4 Tournament (Feb. 14-16) with games against 2019 National Champion Vanderbilt and NCAA Championship series finalist Michigan, while also playing West Coast power, Cal Poly.
The Huskies follow up opening weekend with three more games against Michigan (Feb 21-23) in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at the Mets Spring Training Complex.
Additional non-conference road trips include three-game road series at New Orleans (Feb. 28-March 1) and Presbyterian (March 6-8) before playing Monmouth, Richmond, Iona and a pair of games against fellow NCAA Oklahoma City Regional participant, Harvard, in Virginia.
The Huskies wrap up non-conference series with a pair of games at Seton Hall (March 27-28) before Sunday, March 29 home opener at Elliot Ballpark.
UConn opens its final year of American Athletic Conference play at Cincinnati (March 20-22) before playing home American Athletic Conference series against UCF, (April 9-11), ECU (April 17-19), Houston (May 1-3) and Tulane (May 14-16).
The rest of the road American Athletic Conference slate is at USF (April 3-5), Memphis (April 24-26) and Wichita State (May 8-10).
The Huskies face familiar mid-week foes Hartford, Boston College, Fairfield, Northeastern, CCSU and Rhode Island on the road while playing Bryant, UMass, Rhode Island at Elliot Ballpark.
2019 NCAA Tournament qualifiers,Stony Brook and Army, have been added to the 2020 schedule with a pair of games against the Black Knights.
The American Athletic Conference Championship is back at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Fla. on May 19-24. The champion of the double-elimination format earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
