LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Baseball Head Coach Tony Rossi has announced the appointment of Rob Hardy as an assistant coach. Hardy, who spent the previous two seasons on staff at Division II Bloomsburg University, will serve as the Saints’ pitching coach.
“I’m excited to add Coach Hardy to our staff,” said Rossi. “He’s a proven worker who will provide our pitching staff with the necessary tools for both individual and team success. We’re lucky to have such a good young mind in the fold who brings a lot of energy and a great passion for the game.”
Hardy helped guide Bloomsburg to 66 wins, consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, and the program’s first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship in 54 years, spanning his two seasons as the Huskies’ pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
This past spring, Hardy developed a pitching staff which improved its ERA by more than two full runs from the previous season, to help propel Bloomsburg to a 35-16 record and the school’s first PSAC title since 1965, which culminated in an NCAA Tournament berth. Hardy’s pitching staff ranked 11th amongst 260 Division II programs in hits allowed per nine innings (7.99), 12th in WHIP (1.30), 18th in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.58) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.7), and 25th in ERA (3.88), while setting a new program single-season record with 416 strikeouts.
Hardy mentored First Team All-PSAC selection Ashton Raines and Chad Cooperman, and Second Teamer Zach Newmyer. Also tabbed an ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Region selection, Raines ranked 11th in all of Division II this past season with a 1.94 ERA and stood 12th with a 0.96 WHIP.
In his first season with the Huskies in 2018, Hardy was instrumental in helping guide Bloomsburg to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995. The Huskies achieved a 31-20 overall record, with Raines and Cooperman earing First Team All-PSAC acclaim.
Hardy first entered the collegiate coaching ranks as a student assistant at Binghamton University during the 2017 season. The Bearcats achieved a 30-13 record that spring, with Hardy assisting in the development of a pitching staff which ranked 21st in all of Division I in ERA (3.50), 27th in WHIP (1.26), and 33rd in hits per nine innings (8.11).
Hardy played his final two collegiate seasons at Binghamton, where he was named a unanimous America East First Team selection after recording a 3.88 ERA and seven saves while helping guide the Bearcats to a conference championship and NCAA Regional appearance in 2016. Hardy began his collegiate playing career at Herkimer Community College, which he helped advance to the NJCAA World Series and a third-place finish his sophomore season. In both seasons at Herkimer, the baseball team ranked in the top-10 nationally with a peak ranking of No. 2.
Hardy graduated from Herkimer with an Associates in Sports and Recreation Management, and earned his B.A. in Economics from Binghamton. He recently completed his Master of Educational Leadership in College Student Affairs at Bloomsburg.
