RALEIGH – Head coach Elliott Avent announced on Wednesday that Joey Holcomb has joined the Wolfpack baseball coaching staff.

Holcomb will bring experience from a winning program to a veteran staff that has long prided itself in player growth and development, as he comes to Raleigh after spending the last seven seasons as an assistant coach, including the last four as a recruiting coordinator, at UNCG.

“Coach Holcomb will be a welcomed addition to our program. He brings a proven track record from UNCG where they recruited student athletes of high character and developed them into winners both on and off the field,” said head coach Elliott Avent.

During his tenure with the Spartans, Holcomb helped the squad consistently post some of the best numbers nationally in several offensive categories. Some of those highlights include pacing the NCAA in triples in 2017 and ’18, as well as guiding the team to hitting at or above .320 for three consecutive seasons (2016-18).

“I am truly grateful for this opportunity to join the NC State baseball family,” said Holcomb. “This program is viewed as one of the best in college baseball, and that is a testament to the hard work and leadership of Coach Avent and his staff. I am extremely excited to learn from this staff and work with some of the best players across the country.”

Under Holcomb’s guidance, the Spartans offense broke school records in batting average, hits, RBIs, doubles, triples and on-base percentage.

“Joey is a fantastic baseball coach, as well as a great husband and father. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence is second to none. He and his family will be tremendous assets to the NC State program,” said former Spartans skipper and current Notre Dame head coach Link Jarrett.

He and his wife, Brittany, have two sons, Graham (5) and Reed (3).
