CARY, N.C. – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team finished its intrasquad games Sunday with Red beating Blue, 4-2, at the National Training Complex. Red scored three times in the fifth inning on only one hit in the inning to pull away.
Three of five pitchers in the game were free agents not on the Collegiate National Team training camp roster, as Team USA’s pitcher rested ahead of Monday’s game against CPL Select and next week’s 8th Annual USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series. Alec Burleson (East Carolina) gave Red a nice start on the mound with two scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
Alika Williams (Arizona State) had three hits out of Blue’s leadoff spot and Garrett Mitchell (UCLA) and Tanner Allen (Mississippi State had two hits apiece. Red won despite only having three hits, one each from Colton Cowser (Sam Houston State), Jordan Westburg (Mississippi State) and Doug Nikhazy (Ole Miss).
The Collegiate National Team is back at the National Training Complex to take on the CPL Select team Monday at 4 p.m. ET.

• Nick Loftin (Baylor) drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to plate a run without Red getting a hit in the inning.
• Spencer Torkelson (Arizona State) lifted a sac fly to right field in the fifth to extend Red’s lead to 2-0.
• Jordan Westburg (Mississippi State) rolled a base hit through the right side to score a run with two outs in the fifth inning. A throwing error on the play allowed another run to score to make it 4-0 Red, despite the Red team having just one hit through five innings.
