2019 College Baseball Daily Weekend Preview: Week 3

This weekend is the weekend of tournaments as a lot of teams will be participating in various tournaments around the country.

While it’s fun as a fan to see a lot of teams in one weekend, I prefer a three-game series between two teams to see who has the best team. I will be attending one of these tournaments myself in Pensacola.

Here are the best matchups of week three:

– LSU-Texas (Fri. 6:30pm CT; Sat. 3:30pm CT; Sun. 1pm CT)

Texas has been surprisingly good early this season despite all they lost from last year’s team and the injury to David Hamilton. LSU has dodged a lot of bullets against lesser competition, so we’ll see if they can hold off a true contender like the Longhorns.

– Stanford-CSFU (Fri. 9pm CT; Sat. 8pm CT; Sun. 3pm CT)

Both of these teams are hovering around the back-end of the top 25. This will be a good test for them in the early going. Expect to see some great defense and pitching in this series.

– Oregon State-West Virginia (Fri. 8:35 pm CT; Sat. 4:35pm CT; Sun 4:05pm CT)

The Beavers have been one of the most impressive teams early on starting 8-0 even with all of the departures off last year’s National Championship team, and while breaking in a new coach. West Virginia has three losses this season by a combined four runs. The Mountaineers might be able to give Oregon State a challenge.

– Clemson-South Carolina (Fri. 5pm CT; Sat. 12pm CT; Sun. 11am CT)

Both teams enter the weekend with identical 7-1 records. Neither has really played anyone that can match their talent though. The Tigers have been a bit more dominant, while the Gamecocks have had several close calls. This is always one of the best early season series because of the rivalry, and I expect nothing different this weekend.

Other Series to Keep an Eye On:

  • Shrines Classic (Baylor, Rice, TCU, Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M): The main game is on Friday night between Baylor and Texas A&M.

  • Frisco Classic (Miss. State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Sam Houston St): The game to watch here is on Saturday between Texas Tech and Mississippi State.

  • CCU Baseball Tournament (Northeastern, Illinois, UConn, Indiana, Coastal Carolina): There are several really good games here, but if I had to pick one I’d watch Coastal and Illinois. UConn versus Coastal (Sat) and Illinois (Sun) will be good as well.

  • Minnesota-NC State

  • Duke-Penn State
