- UCLA (3-0) – The Bruins get the nod after an impressive weekend against a good St. John’s team. The got great pitching when they needed it, and they got some timely hitting against a good St. John’s pitching staff.
- Vanderbilt (2-1) – I hate to move Vandy down a spot since they went out and played three good teams in the opening weekend, but I’m a little worried about their pitching staff. We know they are going to score runs, but their pitching has some work to do.
- LSU (3-0) – Friday and Saturday were not pretty for LSU, but they won and that’s all that matters. Like Vandy, I know this team will score, but I need to see more from their starting pitchers.
- Texas Tech (2-1) – You could say the same about Texas Tech as Vandy and LSU. The offense is there, but their pitching is suspect. They gave up 20 runs in the first two games.
- North Carolina (3-0) – I was really impressed with North Carolina this weekend as they easily took care of a pretty good Xavier team. Luca Dalatri struggled Friday night and didn’t make it out of the third inning. They’ll need him to get on track before conference play.
- Florida (3-0) – They faced a young Long Beach State team, but the pitching was fantastic giving up just five runs on the weekend.
- Oregon State (3-0) – After a dramatic comeback on Friday against New Mexico, Oregon State went on to have a great weekend. They beat Big Ten favorite Minnesota 13-1 on Sunday.
- Arkansas (3-0) – They escaped with a win on Sunday as the offense struggled, but overall they put up runs
like we expected. - Louisville (1-2) – I’m really shocked that Louisville dropped the series to UConn, especially when they didn’t have Mason Feole. I’m not ready to give up on them being a top 10 team — there is just too much talent.
- Baylor (4-0) – It was a solid weekend for Baylor as they took care of business against Holy Cross.
- Florida State (4-0) – They had one scare against Maine, but
otherwise they dominated the weekend. - East Carolina (3-0) – The offense fell asleep on Sunday in a 4-3 win, but they took care of business against Radford.
- UConn (2-1) – Making the biggest jump in our rankings, UConn deserves it after an impressive weekend against Louisville — even without Feole. They’re the clear favorite in the AAC
now, and have set themselves up early for an at-large bid. - Southern Miss (3-0) – It went unnoticed by most of the country, but Southern Miss had a really great weekend against Purdue. Now they are
setup to face the next team in these power rankings… - Mississippi State (3-0) – They just demolished Youngstown State at home. We’ll see how good they are this weekend against the Golden Eagles.
