This isn’t a great class for pitching going into the season, but Zack Thompson could be the best in the country.
He was taken in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, but he chose to play at Kentucky.
As a freshman in 2017 he posted a 3.45 ERA in 75.2 innings pitched with 96 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.16.
The 2018 season with Kentucky was one of difficulty as he only pitched 31 innings and had a 4.94 ERA with 42 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.42.
This past summer he threw 5.2 innings in the Cape Cod League, while logging some more innings with the US Collegiate National team.
The 6-foot-3 lefty has some of the best swing-and-miss stuff in the country. I just hope he can stay healthy and have a big year for the Wildcats.
