Gianluca (Luca) Dalatri has the physical presence on the mound to make scouts drool standing at 6-foot-6 and 256 pounds.
That’s partly what led to the Colorado Rockies drafting him in the 40th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, but Dalatri was a pretty strong commit to UNC.
As a freshman in 2017 he posted a 3.34 ERA in 97 innings pitched making 15 starts for the Tarheels with 85 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched with a WHIP of 1.12.
He spent most of the 2018 season on the shelf with an injury, but came back towards the end of the season to compile a 3.33 ERA over 27 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.56.
I’m really hoping we get to see a healthy Dalatri all season long in 2019 as I think he could shoot up draft boards with his potential.
