A highly touted prospect out of high school, Nick Quintana was drafted in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.
That wasn’t enough to keep Quintana from playing college baseball at Arizona where he’s put together a couple of solid seasons.
As a freshman in 2017 he hit .293 over 208 at-bats with 42 runs scored, 17 doubles, 6 home runs, 38 RBI, and a .394 on-base percentage.
That summer he hit just .200 in the Cape Cod League over 105 at-bats with 13 runs scored, 6 home runs, 14 RBI, and a .267 on-base percentage.
In his sophomore season for Arizona he hit .313 over 211 at-bats with 49 runs scored, 17 doubles, 14 home runs, 55 RBI, and a .413 on-base percentage.
Quintana had a much better summer in the Cape this time around hitting .259 over 108 at-bats with 18 runs scored, 5 home runs, 23 RBI, and a .351 on-base percentage.
Putting up those kinds of numbers at a premium position like shortstop is sure to draw the interest of scouts.
