WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Head Baseball Coach Dean Ehehalt has announced the 2019 schedule, a 55-game slate that begins in Cary, NC against Penn State on February 15. The schedule features 20 games played in West Long Branch, including 12 home MAAC contests. MU will play four NCAA Tournament teams from last season, and five teams that won at least 30 games, including a pair of 40-game winners.
“As always, we will challenge ourselves with our non-conference schedule early in 2019,” said Ehehalt. “Our goal is to prepare our team with a tough non-league slate against some very formidable opponents in order to be ready for the demands of MAAC play.”
MU opens the season with a Big Ten opponent in Cary, North Carolina, taking on Penn State for three games beginning on February 15th. The Hawks used a ninth-inning comeback to top the Nittany Lions a season ago. Up next is a weekend set at East Carolina, who comes off a 44-win season and AAC title. Another 40+ game winner is on deck, as the Hawks take on Florida Atlantic to open March before competing in the Maryland Eastern Shore Tournament on March 8-10, featuring four games against UMES and Lehigh.
After a quick stop in New Jersey to play at in-state foe Rutgers on March 13, the Hawks head back south for a three-game set with George Mason before single contests at Longwood and Richmond, who won 30 games in 2018. The first home contests will see MU host Seton Hall and Wagner across the weekend of March 22-24 before a final home non-conference matchup with Hofstra ahead of MAAC play opening up.
The Blue and White head to Saint Peter’s for the second straight year, beginning MAAC play against the Peacocks before a four-game homestand beginning with Princeton and ending with three against Marist. Two road midweek contests break up another four-game home stretch, where MU will host Niagara for three and Seton Hall on April 16th. April concludes with conference weekends at Fairfield and home for Manhattan.
Coach Ehehalt’s squad opens May in Buffalo to play Canisius, before wrapping up the regular season with three at Iona and three more at home against Rider. The 2019 MAAC Tournament will be held from May 22-26 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island, NY.
