MIAMI (Jan. 14, 2019) – A new year brings a promise of things to come including baseball. On Monday, FIU coach Mervyl Melendez released the 2019 Baseball schedule that features 28 home games at FIU Baseball Stadium.
“Our schedule has been designed to challenge our players. I believe that every team we play has a chance to win their league and play in the NCAA Tournament,” FIU coach Mervyl Melendez said. “I am very excited about going into this season with a group of guys that are fully committed to each other.”
It all gets underway at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15th as FIU plays host to Stony Brook out of the America East Conference. The Panthers and the Seawolves are slated to play a three-game series to open the season.
FIU follows up opening weekend with a trip up the coast to Bethune-Cookman for the first mid-week of the season. The Panthers’ annual trip to Port Charlotte takes place on Feb. 23-24, as FIU host the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.
To open the home mid-week slate FIU welcomes a familiar foe to FIU Baseball Stadium as Miami makes the crosstown trek on Feb. 27th. The Panthers will make the return trip to Coral Gables on April 24th.
March opens with the first weekend road trip outside the state of Florida, as FIU heads north to play the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on March 1-3.
The second-longest home stand of the season closes out non-conference play that includes a two-game set with Florida A&M (March 5-6), a three-game weekend series with Seton Hall (March 8-10) and concludes with a mid-week matchup with Stetson on March 12.
FIU opens Conference USA play with a road trip to Marshall for a weekend series starting on March 15th before returning to the Sunshine State to play Florida State in a mid-week on March 20th. WKU comes to town to on March 22nd to for a three-game weekend series to open C-USA play at Infinity Insurance Park.
Eight of the next nine games will be played away from FIU Baseball Stadium. Before heading to the Lone Star State, FIU plays a home-and-home mid-week series with FCGU on March 26 & March 27 and a three-game weekend set at rival FAU on March 29-30.
April brings a trip to Texas to play Houston in a mid-week (April 3) before sights are set across town as Rice plays host to a weekend series (April 5-7).
The Panthers return home to play the 2018 C-USA Champions on April 12-14 as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles come to FIU Baseball Stadium. That weekend series is followed by a mid-week game on April 16 with Bethune Cookman.
FIU heads north to play to play conference foe Old Dominion on April 16-21 before the return trip to Coral Gables and the longest homestand of the year.
The seven-game set includes a three-game series with Charlotte (April 26-28), a mid-week with Bethune-Cookman (May 1) and a weekend set with UAB (May 3-5).
For the final road swing of the regular season, FIU heads to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on May 7th before returning to conference at Middle Tennessee on May 10-12. The final road game of the season will be May 14th at Stetson.
To conclude the season, Louisiana Tech comes to town for a three-game set on May 16-18.
The C-USA tournament will once again be held at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi during the dates of May 22-16. Times are to be announced.
NCAA Regionals get underway on May 22nd and NCAA Super Regional play is slated for June 7th at various host sites to be announced later.
The season calumets June 15-26 as TD Ameritrade Park Omaha plays host to the College World Series.
