after working mostly as a starter as a freshman, he made 22 appearances as a sophomore with nine starts, while posting an ERA of 3.13 in 69 innings pitched with 68 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.19.
Benton elevated himself in the Cape Cod League with a 2.01 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.40.
The tall righty still has a lot to prove at the collegiate level, but the tools are there for him to have a big junior season as East Carolina relies more heavily on him.
