HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics released its 2019 baseball schedule on Saturday.
The Thundering Herd will travel to Kissimmee, Fla. for games against Milwaukee, George Mason, Pittsburgh and Iowa before heading to Wilmington, N.C. for games against the host Seahawks, Iona and Indiana State.
Marshall will open its home slate with a three game series with Binghamton at Kennedy Center Field, which will also be the site for the Thundering Herd’s Conference USA contests this season.
“We are really looking forward to this spring,” said Marshall head coach Jeff Waggoner. “We will return a senior group that is very special and has played for a regular-season league title during its time on campus. This schedule features challenging teams and they will test us.”
“I would also like to thank our administration for its efforts to ensure that all of our home games are played here this season. That means a great deal to myself, our staff and our student-athletes.”
The team will play Southern Miss, the defending league champions, in Hattiesburg on April 5-7.
“We are pleased to have our team play all of its home games closer to Huntington,” Thundering Herd Associate AD and Chief of Staff Jeff O’Malley said. “With the help of the YMCA, we are making enhancements to the Kennedy Center field, which will not only allow us to play Conference USA games there but it will enhance the experience of our baseball student-athletes. However, this is only a temporary solution as we have already begun designing and securing funds for a permanent stadium close to campus.”
The 2019 Conference USA Tournament will be held, once again, in Biloxi, Ms. from May 22-26.
