While Rice is not the college baseball powerhouse it once was, they still know how to recruit pitching and Matt Canterino is the next big thing.
As a freshman in 2017 he posted an ERA of 4.13 in 96 innings pitched with 111 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.21.
He was even more dominant as a sophomore with a 3.06 ERA in 94 innings pitched with 116 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.93.
This past summer he pitched in the Cape Cod League where he had an ERA of 2.59 in 24.1 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.08.
Canterino also pitched for the US Collegiate National Team this past summer.
The big right-handed pitcher obviously has incredible stuff with those huge strikeouts numbers. But he also carries a big frame that allows him to be an innings eater.
Look for another big year for Canterino as he turns himself into a high draft pick next June.
