You won’t see too many relievers on this list, but submariner Stephen Schoch is one of those exceptions.

In his senior year of high school he registered an ERA of 0.00 in 53.1 innings pitched with 45 strikeouts and only three walks allowed.

He played one year at Appalachian State where he posted an ERA of 4.46 in 34 innings pitched with 34 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.54.

That summer he had a 2.87 ERA in the Cal Ripkin League with 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched.

Schoch had to sit out the 2017 season as he transferred to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). But that summer he pitched in both the Cal Ripkin League and Cape Cod League.

In the Cal Ripkin League he had a 0.00 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts and 4 saves. He only pitched four innings in the Cape that summer.

With UMBC he posted a 1.72 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched with 71 strikeouts and 10 saves.

He followed that up with an impressive showing in the Cape Cod League where he posted an ERA of 0.95 in 19 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts.

If he continues that success into the upcoming season, he’ll quickly become known as one of the best relief pitchers in the country.
