A pretty high draft pick out of high school, the San Diego Padres took Grae Kessinger in the 26th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

That still wasn’t enough to keep Kessinger from going to Ole Miss where he hit just .175 as a freshman in 154 at-bats with 15 runs scored, 2 home runs, 16 RBI, and a .287 on-base percentage.

He put himself back on the map as a sophomore by hitting .300 with a .389 on-base percentage over 243 at-bats with 56 runs scored, 18 doubles, 8 home runs, 37 RBI, and 8 stolen bases.

Kessinger only got three at-bats in the Cape Cod League this past summer before suffering a thumb injury. The middle infielder was already dealing with a hamsring injury from the spring, and he didn’t play summer ball the year before because of a Jones fracture, so obviously there are some injury concerns for the 6-foot-1, 180 pound junior.

Hopefully he’ll be back healthy this spring and can put together another big year for Ole Miss.
