Last year was a season full of setbacks for LSU shortstop Josh Smith, but it appears he’s finally healthy and ready to go in 2019.
A highly recruited prospect coming out of high school, Josh Smith turned down the opportunity to go straight to the majors after being drafted in the 38th round by the Detroit Tigers in 2016.
As a freshman in 2017 he hit .281 for LSU over 242 at-bats wtih 52 runs scored, 16 doubles, 5 home runs, 48 RBI, and a .407 on-base percentage.
He boosted his stock even further that following summer by hitting .382 in the Cape Cod League over 76 at-bats with 12 runs scored, 3 home runs, 12 RBI, and a .478 on-base percentage.
He battled a stress fracture in this back during the 2018 season and only played in six games.

Smith took the summer off and his back to his hitting ways this fall as he went four-for-four in the Purple-Gold World Series scrimmage on November 2.
We just hope Smith can stay healthy this year as he tries to re-establish himself as one of the best shortstops in the country.
