Cameron Cannon is a guy that has somehow flown under the radar in his first two seasons with Arizona, but that’s not the case now.
He only got 84 at-bats as a freshman in 2017, hitting .274 with 15 runs scored, 4 doubles, 0 home runs, and 7 RBI.
In the Northwoods League that summer he hit .276 over 105 at-bats with 16 runs scored, 10 doubles, 2 home runs, and 19 RBI.
Cannon burst onto the national scene this past spring by hitting .321 with Arizona over 215 at-bats with 59 runs scored, 21 doubles, 8 home runs, 50 RBI, and a .427 on-base percentage.
That earned him a spot in the Cape Cod League where he hit .263 over 160 at-bats with 15 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 28 RBI, and a .298 on-base percentage.
The 5-foot-11 shortstop will need to repeat that success this spring for scouts to take him seriously.
If he can continue to grow at the plate we’ll see Cannon start to shoot up the draft boards in 2019.
