UCLA made big strides in 2018 making it to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year and advancing to the regional finals. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Garcia was a huge part of their success in 2018.
As a freshman he struggled to the tune of a 6.57 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 12 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts.
He showed signs of promise that following summer as he posted a 1.88 ERA in the Northwoods League over 48 innings with 52 strikeouts and a 1.42 WHIP.
That led to a huge sophomore season in which he had a 2.23 ERA in 76.2 innings pitched (10 starts) with 76 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.98.
He continued to impress this past summer in the Cape Cod League with a 1.29 ERA in 28 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.18.
The 6-foot junior features a tight breaking ball along with a solid fastball that he can command. This should be another big year for Garcia.
