Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head baseball coach and two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Coach of the Year, Jim Carone, has announced the team’s 2019 schedule on Wednesday.
“We are excited to compete against some of the premier programs in the country during our early non-conference schedule,” commented Carone. “These games will prepare us for the always competitive Northeast Conference slate beginning in mid March.”
The Seahawks, who were tabbed co-NEC regular season champions on the heels of a 38-18 overall record and 21-7 league mark (both new school records), will commence the season on the West Coast as they open a three-game set with the University of San Diego Toreros of the West Coast Conference beginning on February 15-17. The Green & White will close out the month of February with a weekend series at East Tennessee State (February 22-24) and a midweek road game at Rutgers (February 26).
March commences with five games in a six-day stretch as Wagner travels to Elon (March 1-3), who recorded 36 victories in 2018, before concluding the road trip at ACC members, the University of Virginia Cavaliers (March 5-6).
Wagner will play its first doubleheader of the season at Stony Brook on March 9 before wrapping up that series on March 10. Stony Brook is coming off a 32-win season. The Seahawks will then travel to the Bronx to tangle with Fordham on March 13.
The Green & White’s home opener will coincide with the Northeast Conference (NEC) lid-lifter as they will host the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers March 15-17 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George. The Seahawks, who went a perfect 7-0 at R.C.B Ballpark a season ago, will continue their homestand when they welcome Seton Hall, who advanced to the Big East title game last year, on March 19 and Saint Peter’s on March 20. The month ends with a pair of road tilts as Wagner travels to Monmouth (March 22-24), before ending the second month of the season with a conference series at Central Connecticut (March 29-31).
To open April, Wagner welcomes Rutgers to finish its home series on April 3 before the team heads out to Sacred Heart (April 5-7). The first night home game of the 2019 season is slated for April 10 as Wagner plays host to Rider.
Wagner will then play seven games in a nine-day span, starting with a rematch of last year’s championship game, as the Seahawks square off against LIU Brooklyn (April 12-14). The squad will then travel to Saint Peter’s (April 16). Following the contest at Saint Peter’s, Wagner will head down to Emmitsburg, MD to tangle with Mount St. Mary’s (April 18-20).
The second home night game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark is scheduled for April 24 as Wagner will host Manhattan, which will kick off a seven-game homestand as the Seahawks welcome Bryant (April 26-28) and Central Connecticut (May 3-5).
Wagner will head to Queens in taking on St. John’s (May 7) before the final homestand commences against Stony Brook (May 11-12), as the Seahawks will play two against the Seawolves on May 11 and host Senior Day on May 12.
The final series of the 2019 campaign is set for May 16-18 as Wagner heads to Fairleigh Dickinson. The 2019 NEC Championship, which will be contested at Dodd Stadium, is set for May 23-26, in Norwich, CT.
