MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (November 20, 2018) – Featuring 22 home games at Monongalia County Ballpark, West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has announced the 2019 baseball schedule.

The Mountaineers’ 53-game schedule consist of 22 contests in Morgantown and 30 away from home, including the Backyard Brawl at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, and a matchup with Marshall at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston.

Additionally, nearly half of the schedule, 23 games, is against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2018. That includes nine games against teams that advanced to the 2018 College World Series, with a three-game set at Oregon State, the 2018 national champions, headlining the list.

“This is a really exciting schedule,” seventh-year WVU coach Randy Mazey said. “This year’s schedule is another challenging one, but that’s what we expect in the Big 12. With nearly half of our games against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, we are looking forward to the opportunity to face some really good teams this year, and that challenge will help us as we look to return to the postseason.”

Eight of WVU’s 2019 opponents are coming off NCAA Tournament berths in 2018. Along with a matchup at reigning national champion-Oregon State, West Virginia plays two more teams that made last year’s College World Series, at home against Texas Tech and at Texas. NCAA Tournament teams also include Oklahoma and Kent State at home and Baylor, Oklahoma State and Morehead State on the road.

West Virginia’s home season features weekend matchups against Big 12 opponents Oklahoma (March 29-31), Texas Tech (April 12-14), Kansas (April 19-21) and TCU (April 3-5), in addition to midweek contests against regional rivals Pitt (April 3), Penn State (April 23) and Marshall (April 30). Additional home games include a home-opening series against Kent State (March 8-10), a midweek outing vs. Youngstown State (March 19) and a series against George Washington (May 16-18) to close out the regular season.

Season tickets and mini-packages for the 2019 season will go on sale on Monday, Nov. 26, at WVUGAME.com or by calling 1-800-WVU GAME.

“I am looking forward to a great home schedule,” Mazey added. “I know our fans are ready to get back to Monongalia County Ballpark, and they’ll get to see us play some really good teams at home this year. Some of the best teams in the Big 12 are coming to Morgantown, along with several midweek matchups against regional rivals that everyone gets excited for.”

WVU’s road schedule is highlighted by a trip to Oregon State (March 1-3) and Big 12 series at Baylor (March 22-24), Oklahoma State (April 5-7), Texas (April 26-28) and Kansas State (May 10-12). The Mountaineers travel to face regional foes Marshall (March 27 in Charleston, West Virginia), Maryland (April 10), Penn State (April 17) and Pitt (May 14 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh).

Additionally, West Virginia will open the season at the Atlanta Challenge with single games at Kennesaw State (Feb. 15), Georgia State (Feb. 16) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 17) in Atlanta. The Mountaineers travel to Georgia Southern (Feb. 22-24) and William & Mary (March 15-17) for weekend series along with a two-game midweek set at Morehead State (March 12-13).

The Big 12 Championship, set for May 22-26, will once again be held in Oklahoma City at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
