One of very few freshmen on this list, I am very excited to see what Matt McLain does for the UCLA Bruins in 2019.
He was taken 25th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, but turned down over $2 million and kept his commitment to UCLA.
Obviously turning down that much money and choosing to go to college puts high expectations on this kid, but from everything I’ve seen he seems ready for the challenge.
At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds he played shortstop in high school, but he is versatile enough to play all over the field.
This summer he hit .291 in the West Coast League over 86 at-bats with 14 runs scored, 3 home runs, 24 RBI, 4 stolen bases, and a .370 on-base percentage.
This kid is has a very athletic frame, kind of reminds me of former Stanford shortstop Nico Hoerner who just went in the first round to the Chicago Cubs.
I am looking forward to watching this kid play college ball for the next couple of years.
