7.2K Right-handed pitcher Morgan McSweeney is expected to be a big part of the Wake Forest starting rotation in 2019. As a freshman in 2017 he had a 3.50 ERA in 36 innings pitched with 48 strikeouts and a 1.61 WHIP. He then had a 4.33 ERA in 27 innings with 26 strikeouts in the Perfect Game League. McSweeney worked his way into the weekend rotation for Wake Forest in the middle of 2018 and ended the season with a 4.44 ERA in 73 innings pitched (10 starts) with 66 strikeouts and a 1.47 WHIP. He struggled with command a bit as a sophomore walking 39 batters. The righty will need to do a better job of that in 2019 to take a step forward. McSweeney only pitched 3.2 innings in the Cape Cod League this past summer, but did well in those innings allowing just one run with 5 strikeouts. A very solid frame at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, and a very smooth and easy delivery. Expect a breakout year for McSweeney in 2019.
