LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University baseball Head Coach Barry Davis has announced his team’s opponents for the upcoming spring 2019 season. In total, the Broncs will take the diamond 55 times with games against opponents from the Big East, A-10, NEC, Ivy League, Big Ten, Atlantic Sun, Big South, West Coast Conference, Big West and the Western Athletic Conference.
“Our trip to California will provide a great experience for our players in addition to the competition we have scheduled,” Davis said. “It has always been a goal for us to play tough opponents early to prepare us for conference play and this trip will provide it.”
The Broncs will host their home opener on Sonny Pittaro Field on Wednesday, March 20 against LIU-Brooklyn.
“The non-conference schedule is consistent with past schedules, but new opponents in USF, UC-Riverside, St. Marys (Ca), Sacramento State, Butler, Richmond and Georgetown, all teams we have never played since my arrival, is exciting,” Davis added. “These 17 games make up over half of our difficult 32 game non-conference schedule beginning on February 15 against Butler.”
Rider begins the year with back-to-back non-conference series in South Carolina against Butler and Gardner Webb in late February. Following that, the Broncs will host Lafayette at Diamond Nation in Flemington.
On the road this season, Rider will square off with Richmond, La Salle, San Francisco, UC Riverside, St. Mary’s College of California, Sacramento State, Princeton, Georgetown and Rutgers. The team will also once again take part in the Liberty Bell Classic.
At home on campus, the Broncs will take on LIU Brooklyn, NJIT, Wagner, Saint Joseph’s (Pa.) and Seton Hall.
In conference play, Rider welcomes Niagara, Siena, Manhattan and Marist to campus for three-game sets. The Broncs will travel to Saint Peter’s, Iona, Quinnipiac and Monmouth in league play.
In Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action, Rider will not play defending conference champion Canisius and Fairfield this year.
