NEW ORLEANS – Ahead of his third year at the helm of the program, Tulane baseball head coach Travis Jewett announced the program’s complete 2019 schedule on Monday morning.
The Green Wave will play 36 of its 56 regular-season games inside the friendly confines of Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. In all, Tulane will take the field for 35 games against teams that finished in the top 115 of the NCAA’s RPI rankings in 2018 and 18 games against the top 50, including nine that were listed in the top 20. The slate also includes 17 contests versus opponents that played in an NCAA Regional last spring.
“Once again, we feel like we have put together a very strong slate that should help prepare us for not only the American Athletic Conference, but for a postseason run as well,” Jewett said. “The boys are training hard and preparing well, and with a nice blend of returners and new players, we feel like we have what it takes to attack the schedule that lies ahead.”
Tulane opens the season at home for the first of a three-game set against George Washington on Friday, February 15 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
Following a pair of midweek home tilts against Lamar, the Green Wave welcome Ole Miss for the first time since 2010 for a three-game series Feb. 22-24. The clubs will meet for the third time in the last four years, including the 2016 Oxford Regional where Tulane knocked off the host and nationally-seeded Rebels, 6-5, in the first elimination game, before a three-game series in Mississippi last season.
After a quick trip to Nicholls closes the first month of action, the Wave will head to the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C., for three games March 1-3. An 11-game homestand follows that trip, which includes mid-week matchups against Texas Southern (March 6), McNeese State (March 12) and UL Lafayette (March 20) surrounded by a trio of three-game series against UC Santa Barbara (March 8-10), UC Riverside (March 15-17) and Houston Baptist (March 22-24).
The Green Wave close March with a road trip to ULL (March 26), before beginning American Conference action March 29-31 at Cincinnati.
League play dominates the final two months of the spring with home series against Wichita State (Apr. 5-7) and USF (Apr. 12-14), as well as a pair of weekend conference swings at Memphis (Apr. 18-20) and East Carolina (Apr. 26-28). Non-conference matchups include road games at New Orleans (Apr. 2 and Apr. 16), at Southeastern Louisiana (Apr. 9), and a home contest against UNO (Apr. 30) to close out April.
May begins with a three-game series at home against UCF (May 3-5) and a visit from Nicholls (May 7). Following a road trip to Houston (May 10-12), the Green Wave closes the regular season with four-straight on home turf against South Alabama (May 14) and three versus UConn (May 16-18).
The American Athletic Conference Championship will be held May 21-26 in Clearwater, Fla.
NCAA Regionals (May 31-June 3) will be held at host sites, followed by NCAA Super Regionals (June 7-10) and the College World Series (June 15-26) in Omaha.
