BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell University head baseball coach Justin Haire has promoted Tyler Robinson to assistant coach after he spent the 2018 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
Robinson has been a part of the Campbell baseball staff since the fall of 2014, spending his first three seasons as the director of operations before transitioning to a volunteer assistant role in the fall of 2017.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching at Campbell under this new role,” Robinson said. “Coach Haire and coach Chris Marx have been great mentors to me in my four years here. It’s an exciting time for our program and I look forward to developing our student-athletes on and off the field, as well as continuing to grow our winning culture.”
Robinson will maintain his responsibilities as a mentor to the Campbell outfield, aide to the pitching staff and as an in-game defensive strategist. He will also have the opportunity to help with off-campus recruiting after working entirely with on-campus recruiting last season.
“Promoting Tyler was a no-brainer for me,” Haire said. “He is loyal, hardworking, and passionate about Campbell baseball and most importantly, he is a life-long learner. He will be heavily involved on the recruiting trail and will continue to push our program to new heights. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to grow with us.”
Since 2015, Robinson’s first season on staff, the Camels have won 118 games, averaging nearly 30 per year, with 19 all-conference picks and five All-America selections. MLB clubs have drafted 14 Campbell players and 17 total players have signed professional contracts during Robinson’s tenure. On August 10, Cedric Mullins who was drafted in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB Draft received his Big League call-up to the Baltimore Orioles.
Robinson came to Campbell from Brunswick Community College, where he served as the Dolphins’ pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
Prior to BCC, Robinson was a student assistant at Elon, where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in business management. The Durham, N.C., native assisted the Phoenix from 2011-13 in day-to-day operations, primarily with pitching, video coordination and camps. With Robinson on staff, the Phoenix made the Charlottesville NCAA Regional finals in 2013.
Campbell baseball is coming off its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament as the Camels swept the Big South regular season and tournament titles for the first time in program history. The Camels had eight all-conference honorees, the most since 2013, and racked up a program-record 21 wins in conference play.
