NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Commissioner Sean McGrath is pleased to unveil the full rosters for the 2018 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game, as announced Sunday afternoon by the league office. The 2018 NECBL All-Star Game will be hosted by the defending champion Valley Blue Sox at MacKenzie Stadium next Sunday, July 29.
Valley’s John Raiola and Plymouth’s Greg Zackrison, whose teams ranked first in the North and South Division, respectively, after the Friday (July 20) cut-off date, will lead their respective divisions in next weekend’s showcase. Raiola will be doing so for the first time while Zackrison earns the honor for the second time after managing the south back in 2014.
Each All-Star Team is comprised of nine slots for pitchers (starting pitcher, seven relievers, closer); a starter and two substitute catchers; a starter and substitute for the four remaining infield positions; a starter and substitute designated hitter; three starting outfielders and three reserve outfielders; and one Coach’s Selection by each manager for a total of 29 players per squad.
For the fourth straight season, ALL NECBL fans will have their voices heard for the final player selections of the 2018 NECBL All-Star Game roster! Beginning at midnight on Monday, July 23, fans can vote for one of 13 players nominated by the league for the 2018 NECBL All-Star Game Fan Vote. The players with the most votes from each division will take to the diamond next Sunday as the 30th members of each team. Check back at Vote18.NECBL.com beginning Monday (July 23) at midnight to learn more about how to vote!
Valley last hosted the NECBL All-Star Game in 2014, marking the second time in five seasons that the Blue Sox franchise will have the honor of hosting the league’s showcase event. The All-Star Game showcases the NECBL’s top talent in a fun-filled afternoon and evening of the best the league has to offer – with players from all 13 NECBL franchises showcasing their skills in front of scouts from every Major League Baseball (MLB) organization. Pregame ceremonies are scheduled for 5:10 p.m., with first pitch to follow shortly afterward. A full itinerary can be found here.
In addition to the All-Star Game, Sunday’s festivities also include a 60-yard dash and the Home Run Derby starting at approximately 3:15 p.m. as part of the annual Skills Competition. Rosters for both events, as well as the league’s first-ever MLB Talent Showcase – free to all MLB scouts! – will be announced in the coming days.
The NECBL congratulates all of its deserving student-athletes and coaches on their outstanding summer in the league.
