Iona’s Pat Carey will not return for 2019 Season

College Baseball Daily has learned that Iona head coach Pat Carey will not return for the 2019 season as was announced on Tuesday afternoon. You can check out the full press release below.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski has announced baseball head coach Pat Carey will step down after 13 seasons with the Maroon & Gold. The Gaels recently completed their 2018 campaign this weekend at City Park.

“I would like to thank Coach Carey for his years of service at Iona College,” said Glovaski. “The energy and effort he exuded and his passion for the program and its student-athletes over the last 13 years was evident and commendable and we wish him well.”

In 2017, Carey helped lead the Gaels to the MAAC Championship game in the program’s first appearance in at the conference tournament in 17 seasons. He was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the team’s efforts in the regular season before leading the Gaels to four wins in the tournament including three in the elimination bracket.

Four of Carey’s players Iona were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft including James LaSala in 2006, Chris Burke in 2012, Mariano Rivera III in 2016 and Jared Finkel in 2017.

A national search for a replacement will commence immediately.
